Preparing for travel

Every now and then we are hearing about how unsafe our country is becoming. Who is responsible? We or the government. Both. If we are going somewhere, say on a long drive we must be prepared beforehand. Our long journey did not start all of a sudden. We plan and then we start getting prepared for the journey. Someone is managing clothes, another person is looking after the vehicle if it is a journey worthy and if kids are also included they are managing their syllabus books or toys. So everyone is preparing, no matter how small the journey may be, everyone is doing his or her job for the journey.

Preparation by the Government

Not only we but the government is also preparing for our safety, which is their daily job. They are patrolling the roads for the safety of the travellers. Looking after every corner of the transporting mode like roads, motorways and other areas of travelling by car. Someone is looking for road maintenance. Someone is looking for a communication system, someone managing medical assistance and someone for vehicle maintenance. But when safety comes then the culprits also come into the scene. They start looking up for the loopholes where they try to fit in and make their attack.

Safety and Security

As far as the safety on the highways is concerned many of us have heard from our elders that security starts from your house. For the sake of this reason, do not disclose when you are going to start travelling. Where exactly you are going. No need to tell everyone. Only the traveller and the recipient may know. It is also recommended that travelling in the daylight is important. Try to reach the destination before sunset. Even today, some of my friends who are pilots in the Air Force say that on daily practice flying they have to land at the base before sunsets.

Tyres

Now car tyre cutting incidents are taking place on the motorways. Get your car tyres checked before the start of the journey. You must also keep track of your car’s tyres. What date and what was the millage note down and keep it handy. Mostly new and good tyres can give you a mileage of about 50,000 km. Always check the spare tyre if it is worth using in case if a tyre gets punctured during travel.

Pray for the journey

The most important thing which should have come at the top but as mentioned, to do all the best than starting the journey is with the prayer seeking Allah’s help during the journey. He be the helper all the way from start to the end. Always keep your wits with you.

Stay Alert

While going on a long drive it is better to be accompanied at least two should be in the vehicle. And both must be in some light conversation like some sharing some story or some jokes, anything. Or even a song or music playing. This will keep the driver awake and alert. Always wear a seat belt and instead of the driver talking on mobile the passenger should use the mobile or now a days in latest model vehicles mobile phones blue tooth system is available so the driver can talk using a hand-free system.

Taking precautions

While driving, keep on looking for the road safety messages and properly follow them. Especially when going to Islamabad and coming back. Driving in the hilly area should be covered with more caution. After all, it is not all that bad. With all the precautions you are safe. Yes, one thing more keep the motorway police helpline phone number readily available on your mobile phone home screen ready to dial in case of emergency. This is also good. Keep in touch with a family member while driving so that if God forbid something goes wrong you can always seek help. Sometimes the signals are not good enough so it is advised to send an SMS. Always be a good to best driver. Have safety on highways. Have a nice day.

Life Contains But Two Tragedies. One Is Not To Get Your Heart’s Desire; The Other Is To Get It



This meaningful quote Life contains but two tragedies: one is not to get your heart’s desire; the other is to get it” is found in the literature with the reference to two great personalities; Socrates and Jorge Burned Shaw, both want to make our lives from good to best. It is very important that an intelligent saying can be stated by different divine personalities.

According to this quote psychology of human desire is two-folded. The process to achieve a goal or desire can lead to unhappiness and maybe dissatisfaction. Yet, attaining an objective can produce an aftermath of uncertainty and lassitude and can be resulted in laziness and lethargy.  In this way, our desires, in the end, became unpleasant for us.

Desires work as a motivator and make it easier to achieve them. Desires can impel us toward positive, life-enhancing experiences.  Without any force, it will be difficult to use our full energies to achieve our aims and desires. Our desires can be positive or negative. If we have noble desires, these can create a positive change in ourselves and all around us.

Our desires, if the true ones are strong enough to impel us to do the meaningful efforts. If it is not so strong, then there can be half-heartedness there. In this way, chances of failure must be there. So, our real desires must have enough pressure on them, which requires having them.

Our desires can be of any kind; worldly or spiritual. Material things will never satisfy the desire; only a serene spirit and a detachment from outcomes will enable us to live peaceably beside the torrent that is our desire.

Another important thing with this reference is that the strategies we use to achieve our desires must be positive and legal. All legitimate steps must be taken in this way. If our desires became our habits then the results will not be desirable. A balanced approach will be required.

To take this quote in a positive sense, it will be more positive to have many desires with us. In our lives, we can have many different and meaningful desires. In this way after achieving one, we will start working on the other one or we can try to achieve more than one desire at a time. In this way, no feelings of hollowness and tragedy will be there. This type of lifestyle is the crux of a divine and positive life.

Civic Sense

1. What is Civic Sense?

Civic Sense - The Sign to a Civilized World. It is the need of the day. Let us make a civilized world. Civic sense makes us human beings. If we are not civilized then what will be the difference between us and animals. Even animals are civilized and I would say they are good and some are best.

2. Choose a leader.

As a group of people, we need to choose one person as a leader. Then follow him whether he is right or wrong. If he is wrong you can give him your opinion with all your knowledge. If he thinks you are right then he might accept it or reject it depends upon him. Some times the leader knows more than you do and under this situation, he is not able to share it with you for some reason. He might be looking from the top. He has a great vision for the plan. So if we follow him we will be civilized and will be one united group otherwise we will be a broken group unorganized and uncivilized. This civics we learn from education.

3. Good use of Education.

Some time education takes us to become an arrogant landlord and in the long run, makes us warrior and we start fighting with weak to acquire them. Here at this moment, civic sense comes in. Why one person is greedy? Greediness is human nature. This is where patience strives. Education and learning make us human being. When we are good and polite everyone likes us. We always give ways to others and care for others. Caring comes from civics. We must learn to care for all that is elder and youngsters. We also have to be good to the animals as well.

4. Adopt a queue system.

Another example of civics is making a queue at a public place. This not only looks good but it really saves time. I had a personal experience. It was such a nice example of civic sense when I was in London in 2003. I wanted to go from Wimbledon to Marble Arch by British rail. At that time I was all alone and went to the ticket machine it was a bit new for me. I started looking at the machine how to use it it took me some time. By somehow I just looked at my back and found there was such a long queue behind me and I got a bit panicked. I apologized. I asked a man at my back to please help me and he helped me in buying the ticket. This is called civics. All the people were watching that I was new and was juggling to get a ticket. No one made a fuss or shouted at me to be quick.

5. Amend yourself.

Sometimes I wonder where are we moving. Is this civilization? I have seen many herds of animals when they are moving they move silently and move in a polite manner they have one leader and some times there is a trained dog which guides them where to go. Why can’t we do this? Whom we are impressing? How do we get out of this stupidity? I am sorry to get a bit harsh but these are my feelings. We have to finish our ego for the sake of others and for the sake of our nation. Just Think.

Speak Gently

What is speaking

“Speak gently”, is apparently a very small quality, but its weightage is pretty high. We speak all day. In our home, we speak, in our schools, colleges we speak, in our professional life, we speak. In fact, we all are speaking beings. It is the superiority of humans over all other creatures. So, we are special, in this way from all others.

Everything in this world has some impact on others. Whatever we do has some effect on our surroundings. Our speech is very valuable, not only for us but for others as well.

Talk Positive

First of all, it is of extreme importance to talk yourself in a positive way. If we pass negative remarks to ourselves, it will damage our own personality and with a damaged personality, how can we talk positively to ourselves or others. For all this, we try to start talking positively to ourselves. This practice will help us a lot in improving our general conversation.

Effect on others

Our talk with others can have a very strong effect on others; in a positive or in a negative way. When we are kind to ourselves, it makes easy for us to be kind to others. We are quick to criticize others when they make a mistake but often omit to praise them when they do something good or right. It passes a very negative impact on others. If we remember more to appreciate others' positive behavior, it will encourage them to repeat that good behavior in the future. So, in this way, we can help that person to adopt more good habits. It is also true that this attitude is not required every time. Sometimes our related ones can make some mistakes. In this case, we have the responsibility to change his/her behavior. We must do it but still in a kind way and in a kind tone. Our harsh words can create irritation and defensive reactions.

Quick on judgment

Our society has trained us to focus more on what goes wrong instead of what goes right. We are quick to point out mistakes made by our life partners, children, friends, and colleagues.  You can balance this negative thinking by deliberately giving some compliments or positive feedback on a daily basis. In this way we can heal our somewhat remarks 

Be nice

Remind yourself to say something nice to someone the moment you reach at work, or before you head home for the day or on the weekend. More importantly, say something nice the moment you reach home to your family after a long time. In this way, you can change your immediate environment with your words.

There are so many examples explaining the good or bad effects of our talk. One glorious example says that during a meeting with some successful people, a minister-level officer asked by a person about his changed life. That person replied that you are that person who changed my whole life. The officer was surprised and could not remember the event. Then that successful person told me that when I was in prison, you visited and after seeing me you said, “You are an intelligent person”. Those remarks changed my self-image and changed my whole life. So, please remember our words can make miracles and are so powerful that they can change the whole scenario. 

Our harsh and discouraging words can also change others' lives but in a negative way. One girl, who was pretty intelligent and smart. Unfortunately, she got bad grades in only one subject on her first examination. All the people around her discouraged her a lot with their words and gestures. As an awful result, her self-image was badly affected her performance for a very long period of time. When she was graduating, again the words of her grandmother encouraged her and she got 1st division. This success restored her confidence. Her later successful life was the evidence of her intelligence that was lost somewhere.

So, being useful and beneficial members of our society, we should be very careful in our daily conversation with others. We should deliberately select positive words, positive remarks, and positive statements to others. In this way, we can make a positive change in our surroundings that can benefit not only others but to ourselves too.

The Benefits Of Regular Exercise On Health

 

Exercise for Health.

The benefits of regular exercise on health keep you going for long and good. If you have good health you are happy. You are happy then the nation is happy. This rule fits for the whole nation. I have heard that most of the American citizens walk daily for about an hour or so. This keeps them healthy. Early to bed and early to rise is one of the best rules of good health.

Good Food.

The benefit of exercise is that it keeps your blood in circulation keeping you healthy. It also regulates your digestive system. It makes you hungry and you eat. But this does not mean that you keep on eating whenever you like and feel. Giving a gap between the two meals is beneficial for one's health. A good diet is to eat plenty of breakfast, eat normal at lunch and little at night. Eat only for living, do not live for eating. Make sure you take at least one hour of the time after having dinner before going to sleep.

Stay Relaxed.

Staying relaxed is also a good type of meditation. Namaz (offering prayers) is the best type of meditating exercise. Offering prayers five times a day is second to none exercise. It makes you relaxed and happy.

Walking is good for your health.

Yes, walking is the most simple and the best exercise. Although we consider that using dumbbells or some heavy equipment to keep ourselves fit, it is not necessary. The equipment-based exercise is expensive and in the long run, when you leave it it will make your body chubby. Walking is free and also it has no fixed time to start. But remember when you have started walking stick to it and try to use the same time every day. The best time to walk is early in the morning. First, you are totally free at that time and with no disturbance. Second, the plants and trees beside the road or in the park are exhaling oxygen which is very vital for the human body. You inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. In return trees and plants inhale carbon dioxide in the daytime and exhale oxygen. It is really a free blessing from nature. While walking, you walk alone. It is good to see the world around you which you missed seeing in your daily fast-moving life. You cannot enjoy and see all these natural environments while driving a car.

Sleep well.

Another good thing about exercise is that at night when you fall asleep you get a sound sleep which is very important and good for your health.

Avoid using the lift at the office.

It is important to avoid using the lift as much as you can. Back in 1985-1986 during my studies at a University in England, whenever I used to go to the library which was having many floors. There was a lift and it was mostly used by Asians. The Britishers used stairs that kept them healthy. So try to avoid the use of lift in the office.

Take time for exercise.

In today’s busy world getting time for exercise is not easy. I do not understand how people take time to go to the gym for exercise by paying a huge amount of money whereas you can do the same thing by doing it for free.

Skipping the rope.

Another good exercise is rope skipping. This also keeps you in good health. It keeps you on your toes and keeps you lightweight. Swimming, horse riding are also very good examples of exercise but are expensive. Those who can afford must do these exercises too. Likewise, skiing is also very good.

In a nutshell, exercise is good for life. The healthier you are,  the healthier the nation will be. Stay healthy, stay fit, so exercise for health and healthy nation.


Party Manners And Good Etiquette Of Eating In Public Parties

 

Eating manners at parties

Party manners and good etiquette of eating in public parties is the basic need of the day in our country. Do not rush like ill-mannered people. Be civilized. This is the most important reality which must be taken care of. Wearing a party suit and when the call for dinner is heard that the dinner is served why we rush like a hungry person. Food will never finish. I can get what I need. If I take more than what I need I might not digest the food and get sick. What will I gain out of it? This bad culture has been built up so vastly in this society, the more we want to leave the more we dig into it.

In a party

Once I was attending a congregation. There were about 100 people present. It was at night time and dinner was to be served. When the dinner was served everyone rushed to the dining table and were surprised to see that the dining plates were filled with pieces of meat and vegetables. Those plates were placed nicely on the table. There was no rush. The organizer said if the guests want to eat more they will fill the guest plate. So there was no fuss. Although it was a forced civilized manner, it worked. 

Behaving good

Need not to write about how bad we behave. The question is how to behave like a human being. What do we get out of this inhuman attitude? Whom are we impressing? On one occasion, one person was behaving badly he was interrupted and was asked why he was misbehaving? He said I have paid for this food. I have the right to eat plenty. This is absolutely not the way of our culture and our religion. We have been created good to the best of the creation in this universe.

One meaning is that life gives us the opportunity to try different things and on the basis of its effects, we can try something different from that. In this way, we can learn different modes of action, which can help us in our lives and we can choose one of the best of them, according to our experience.
